Best EICR app UK (2026)

There is no single best EICR app, because they don't cover the same work. This page sets out the six things worth checking before you pay for one, then puts Certio, Tradecert, iCertifi and EasyCert side by side, with a source for every fact about the other three and the jobs Certio can't do yet.

Six things to check in an EICR app

Most EICR apps look the same on a phone screen. They come apart on these six points.

📄

1. The model form

The Electrical Installation Condition Report, the schedule of inspections and the schedule of test results should be laid out to the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 model forms. Ask which amendment the forms are on, not just whether the app "supports BS 7671".

📵

2. Offline on site

Boards live in cellars, meter cupboards and plant rooms. If the app needs a connection to open a certificate, you will end up writing readings on your arm. Check what happens with the phone in flight mode.

💷

3. The true monthly cost

Add VAT, per-user fees, AI tokens or credits, and annual support renewals to the headline price. A £18 a month plan with two extra users and VAT is not £18 a month.

🖨️

4. A clean, branded PDF

Your logo, your business details, your scheme registration, no watermark and no "made with" line. Some free plans let you build the certificate but watermark the export until you subscribe.

📦

5. Getting your data out

You are keeping these reports for years. Check you can export certificates and customer records, and what happens to them if you stop paying.

🤖

6. What the AI does when it can't read something

A board scan that invents a rating is worse than no board scan. The only safe behaviour is to leave the field blank, or flag it as an assumption, and let you confirm every way before it is imported.

One thing no app changes. You are the competent person signing the report. Software can lay out the form and do the typing. The inspection, the testing and the C1, C2, C3 and FI codes are yours.

How to read this table. "Not listed" means we looked on the supplier's own website and couldn't find it, not that it definitely doesn't exist. These products don't include the same things, so compare what is in each plan rather than the headline price alone. Spotted something wrong or out of date? Straight about it

Which one suits which electrician

Certio isn't the right fit for everyone. Here is where each of the four makes sense, on the facts in the table above.

Certio, if you do EICRs and want the paperwork and the money in one app

EICR, EIC, Minor Works and PAT on the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 model forms, a board scan that fills the schedule, and on Pro the quotes, invoices with CIS and reverse charge VAT, payment links and receipts. £4.99 or £9.99 a month with no VAT to add and no contract.

Tradecert, if you need EV, solar, fire alarm or emergency lighting certificates

Tradecert lists EV charger, solar PV, domestic and commercial fire alarm, and emergency lighting certificates5, plus live multi-user editing with roles4. Certio does none of those certificates yet.

iCertifi, if you work on Apple kit and want a wide form set

Fifteen certificate types including EV charger and solar PV, on iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs11. It is Apple only13, and fire alarm, emergency lighting and PAT are separate apps bought separately10.

EasyCert, if you want Windows software you buy once

A one-off licence for a PC rather than a monthly subscription17, with fire alarm and emergency lighting forms19. After the first 12 months, updates and support are £49.95 a year per licence18.

What Certio can't do yet. No EV charger, solar PV, fire alarm or emergency lighting certificates. No PAT barcode labels. No public reviews. The iPhone app is in App Store review, so iPhone users are on TestFlight or the web portal until it is approved, and the Android app is a direct download while the Google Play listing is in testing. If any of those decide it for you, one of the other three is the better buy.

Questions about choosing an EICR app

What is the best EICR app in the UK in 2026?
There isn't one answer for every electrician, because the apps don't cover the same ground. If you only do EICRs, EICs, Minor Works and PAT and you want the lowest monthly price with quotes and invoicing built in, Certio is £4.99 a month on Starter and £9.99 on Pro with unlimited certificates, with no VAT to add. If you also issue EV charger, solar PV, fire alarm or emergency lighting certificates, Certio doesn't do those yet, and Tradecert, iCertifi and EasyCert all list some of them. If you work on Apple devices only, iCertifi is built for them. If you want desktop software you buy once rather than rent, EasyCert is a Windows licence.
What should I look for in an EICR app?
Six things. One, that the EICR, schedule of inspections and schedule of test results are laid out to the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 model forms. Two, that it works with no signal, because plant rooms and cellars have none. Three, the true monthly cost, including VAT, per-user fees and any AI tokens or credits. Four, that the PDF is branded as yours and comes out without a watermark. Five, that you can get your certificates and customer data out again. Six, that the AI leaves blanks blank rather than guessing a value it cannot read.
Does an EICR app need to work offline?
Yes, for most jobs. Consumer units sit in cellars, meter cupboards and plant rooms with no signal. Certio keeps certificates, jobs, photos, quotes and invoices on the phone and syncs when you are back on signal. The AI features need the internet, so a board photo or tester-screen read queues up and runs as soon as you reconnect.
Is there a free EICR app?
Free plans usually let you fill a certificate in but not get it out. Tradecert lists a free plan with no card details, and says a subscription is needed to download PDFs without watermarks3. iCertifi is free to use in trial mode, with a subscription needed to send, save, print or export certificates11. EasyCert has a free evaluation download for Windows20. Certio gives every plan 7 days free with everything switched on; a card is taken at sign-up and nothing is charged for 7 days, so cancel before day 8 and you pay nothing. Facts about the other apps checked on 12 September 2026.
Which EICR apps are updated for BS 7671 Amendment 4 (A4:2026)?
Certio's EICR, EIC and Minor Works forms are laid out to the BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 model forms. Tradecert labels its forms BS 7671 A4:2026 and says the April A4 changes were live in its app in May5. iCertifi says it is updated for A4:202611, and iCertifi Cloud Pro lists BS 7671:2018+A4:202613. Checked on 12 September 2026, so check with each supplier before you buy. More on the amendment: BS 7671 Amendment 4 certificates.
What does Certio not do yet?
Certio has no EV charger, solar PV, fire alarm or emergency lighting certificates, and no PAT barcode labels. It has no public reviews yet. The iPhone app is in App Store review, so iPhone users are on TestFlight or the web portal until it is approved, and the Android app is a direct download while the Google Play listing is in testing.
